High schoolers all around the world are often to focused on either studying or partying, and they never prioritize sleep. There are some important facts about sleep that all teenagers should know:
Good sleep can be easily destroyed. Consumption of anything before bed (snacks, caffeine, and nicotine) can throw off the quality of your sleep.
It’s more important to have good quality sleep rather than a greater quantity of sleep. This is due to the fact that the memory processing of the brain only occurs during the REM period of sleep which is a result of a good quality of sleep.
Going to sleep at consistent times is important.
The brain resolves issues and conflicts during quality sleep.
These are all extremely important for each individual to keep in mind as they strive to improve their sleep patterns. However, even with this information it is difficult for students to obtain the right amount of sleep. Here are some tips that might help them out:
Avoid screen time before bed. Exposure to blue light restricts the release of melatonin, the sleep hormone. As a result, the body doesn’t feel as sleepy.
It is important to get some sunlight during the day. Natural white light improves the quality of sleep.
Do not eat before bed.
Remembering all of the important things about sleep and following these rules will help one be able to undergo a better sleep cycle.
