Journaling

Journaling is one of the most all-around beneficial habits, especially for those struggling with their mental health.

1. Decluttering: Often times, I find that writing things down and enumerating my problems can ease a lot of the thoughts mounting in my head. It gives me a feeling of control over my life. Journaling can serve this purpose of decluttering your life.

2. Self-Awareness: When feeling overwhelmed or confused, writing down our internal thoughts can help us become more aware of how we are feeling. It can help you recognize triggers or certain things that cause us to feel negative or positive emotions.

3. Positivity: Through journaling, we can have a set time everyday to sit down and slowly express ourselves. During our eventful day-to-day lives, it can be hard to relax because we are often caught up in the moment. By slowing down, we can practice searching for the pluses or the "little happy moments" in our lives.

4. Routine: By having a routine and writing everyday, we have a set time to ourselves. This can be a comforting time. Although on some days when I'm so tired I just want to get in bed, I sit down and just write a few short lines. By setting a habitual time, it is easier to keep it up. Don't put pressure on yourself to write a lot every day. This is your time to write about whatever you want.

5. Honesty: Sometimes, we can't say how we deeply feel or our inner concerns. Writing things

down is a way to acknowledge how we are feeling. This is a time where we don't have to put up a filter.

To get started, pick up a pen and write about anything: how your day went, what you just ate, something fun that you did, if you are feeling troubled by something, plan for the next day, motivate yourself. Doodle if you want. Let this time and activty be a reflection of you.
