This summer, FMHO organized a care package drive to help homeless populations in our community suffering due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to do what we could to provide support to those who have to endure so much pain during these tough times.
So in July, FMHO hosted a donation drive, asking people to donate whatever self-care items they could to our cause — including masks, toiletries, non-perishable foods, etc. We then reached out to more community members for letters or messages that could be paired along with the care packages to give positive encouragement to those receiving them.
We would like to take a moment to thank everyone who donated/contributed! Without them we couldn't have made this happen.
On Saturday, September 19, FMHO was able to distribute the finalized care packages. We donated all the items to Second Chance Inc, a drug and alcohol abuse treatment center and emergency shelter, in Newark, California. Located at 6330 B Thornton Avenue, the non-profit, community-based organization works to help those struggling with addiction on their road to recovery, as well as counsel people who have gone through difficult, often life-altering, situations.
Overall, this was an incredible experience! We are so happy to have been able to help people in our community during such rough times, providing those in need with some motivation to keep fighting. We hope that the care packages gave some relief and support to people struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stay tuned for more events coming soon! Remember to take care of yourself, and stay safe and healthy!
